Key information

Geo and its parent company, Second Retailing, announced on October 17 that they have suspended Geo Online and various web services due to unauthorized access to their internal systems. This security incident was first identified on October 15, 2026, prompting the company to initiate emergency maintenance to prevent further damage.

The company is currently collaborating with external security experts to investigate the cause and scope of the breach. As of the time of writing, the restoration schedule remains undetermined. Geo has not yet disclosed whether personal information was compromised or the specific methods used by the attackers.

The maintenance has disrupted several digital services, including the Geo Online store, which has halted new orders and cancellations. Additionally,宅配買取 (home delivery purchase) services are currently unable to process new applications, transaction history, or payment transfers. While app-based membership features may be unavailable, customers can still use physical or digital Ponta cards for in-store rentals and purchases.

This incident follows a series of cyberattacks targeting domestic organizations, including a recent data breach at Bookoff Group. While JPCERT/CC issued a warning regarding these trends on October 8, Geo stated that the connection between their situation and other recent industry attacks remains unclear.
