Key information
Taiwanese developer Ashen Knight has released a free demo for their upcoming title, Listening Post, on Steam. The game uniquely blends English dictation exercises with real-time tower defense mechanics, aiming to help players improve their language skills through the pressure of strategic gameplay.
Players build and upgrade defenses by accurately transcribing English audio. Each tower requires completing a dictation task, where speed and accuracy directly impact how quickly defenses are deployed. The game features 12 distinct tower branches, including options like laser cannons and incendiary bombs, alongside a frenzy system that boosts fire rate and range.
The game includes an adaptive difficulty system that adjusts based on player performance, offering various accents and speeds. To prevent frustration, the game provides features like playback controls, slow-motion during long sentences, and a hint assistant for difficult words. A prologue helps determine the player's initial skill level.
Beyond core combat, players encounter boss battles, random events, and talent progression systems. The demo is currently available on Steam, with the full version of Listening Post scheduled for release at the end of November.
