Koei Tecmo Games has officially announced the upcoming release of The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother, a mystery adventure game featuring an original story drafted by Natsu Hyuga. The title is scheduled to launch on March 18, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and the Switch 2.
Players take on the role of Maomao, an apothecary from the pleasure district, as she investigates five mysteries within the inner palace and five curses spreading throughout the capital. The narrative begins shortly after Maomao starts her service as a lady-in-waiting, where she is tasked by Jinshi to uncover the truth behind strange occurrences, including a faceless eunuch and a weeping storehouse.
The gameplay incorporates exploration segments where players can control Jinshi to gather testimonies inaccessible to Maomao, or play as the cat Maomao to investigate restricted areas. Additional mechanics include a character investigation log, a medicine preparation system assisted by characters like the quack doctor and Luomen, and an achievement system that unlocks still images based on specific conditions.
Pricing for the standard edition is set at 8580 yen, with premium boxes and a Digital Deluxe Edition also available. Digital pre-orders for the download version are slated to begin on October 22, 2026. The game introduces new characters, including Yanshi, voiced by Yumi Uchiyama, and Chenhan, voiced by Takahiro Miyamoto.
