Independent developer Kongoto announced its new PC title, Horror Mahjong, on October 29, 2026. The game features a unique blend of traditional mahjong gameplay set within a haunted teahouse environment.
Players must balance mahjong mechanics, such as drawing, discarding, and calling pon or kan, with survival combat. While at the table, players defend themselves against attacking ghosts and jiangshi using weapons like guns and peach wood swords. Between rounds, players can purchase supplies, including autonomous wooden dolls that assist in combat.
After achieving a win, players can leave their seats to assist or rescue fallen companions. The objective is to survive the night together and escape at dawn. The game supports both solo play, where players are joined by paper-doll companions, and multiplayer for up to four people.
Horror Mahjong is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Steam store page is currently live, though the game does not support Japanese language display at this time.
