The indie titles Valor Mortis and Tenebris Somnia have launched internationally on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, yet remain unavailable in Japan as of October 19, 2026. While both games are currently sold domestically on Xbox platforms via the IARC 18+ rating system, their release on Sony and Nintendo consoles in Japan faces significant regulatory challenges.

The primary obstacle involves the CERO rating system. Although PlayStation and Nintendo consoles utilize IARC for some digital software, Japanese storefronts do not permit releases under the IARC 18+ classification alone, necessitating a formal CERO rating. This requirement has previously led to the cancellation of domestic PlayStation releases for titles like Gears of War: Reloaded and Halloween: The Game, as developers often choose not to censor content to meet CERO standards.

Regarding current status, Valor Mortis developers confirmed on October 9 that the game is unavailable on PlayStation in Japan due to pending rating reviews. Meanwhile, Tenebris Somnia is slated for a domestic physical release, which mandates CERO certification. Neither developer has announced plans to alter game content to satisfy local requirements.

The situation highlights a recurring issue for indie developers seeking to bring mature-rated content to Japanese console markets. While Xbox versions remain accessible, the future of these specific titles on PlayStation and Switch depends on navigating the strict CERO evaluation process without compromising the intended player experience.
