The METRO Redux Next-Gen Update is now available for XBOX Series X|S consoles, providing performance and visual enhancements for both METRO 2033 and Last Light Redux. This free update aims to leverage the latest hardware to increase immersion for both returning veterans and new players.
Technically, the update introduces options for true 4K resolution at 60fps or upscaled 4K at 120fps. Visual fidelity is further bolstered by 4A TSR Upscaling and Antialiasing support. Developers at 4A Games have also implemented more detailed textures, improved lighting and shadow systems, richer environmental assets, and enhanced animation fidelity to modernize the experience.
Beyond visual upgrades, the update integrates support for the XBOX controller’s Impulse Triggers to provide tactile feedback during gameplay. While these changes modernize the titles, 4A Games states that adjustments were carefully tuned to preserve the original look and feel of the series, respecting the community's long-standing affection for the franchise.
The update also includes full optimization for XBOX Ally and Ally X, alongside XBOX Play Anywhere support. This release serves as a precursor to the upcoming launch of METRO 2039, scheduled for February 4, 2027.
