Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilm Games, stated on October 15 that Star Wars video games do not exclusively need to be AAA productions. According to The Game Business, Reilly highlighted that while large-scale titles remain essential, the franchise benefits from exploring diverse genres and storytelling opportunities through various partners.

This strategic shift is evidenced by the recent success of smaller-scale projects. The turn-based strategy game STAR WARS: Zero Company, developed by Bit Reactor, and the racing title Star Wars: Galactic Racer, from Fuse Games, have both received high critical acclaim. On Metacritic, Galactic Racer holds a score of 88, while Zero Company maintains a score of 84.

Reilly noted that Lucasfilm does not prioritize studio size when selecting partners, focusing instead on finding the best fit for specific experiences. While they maintain high quality standards and often collaborate with experienced teams, they are open to working with publishers of varying sizes, as seen with Secret Mode publishing Galactic Racer.

Looking ahead, the franchise will continue to feature a mix of project scales. Upcoming titles include the action RPG Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic from Arcanaut Studios, Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse, and the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series by Respawn Entertainment.
