Reports indicate that Xbox requested $800 million from Netflix for a seven-year exclusive agreement to adapt its gaming properties into films and series. According to Puck, Netflix initially proposed $500 million for these rights, but Microsoft countered with the higher figure.

The proposed deal would have granted Netflix exclusive rights to adapt Xbox titles. However, the negotiations reportedly collapsed following internal restructuring at Netflix, including the departure of content chief Bela Bajaria. Microsoft is now shifting its strategy toward smaller agreements with a broader range of partners.

Despite the failed exclusivity deal, both companies intend to continue collaborating. Projects such as a live-action film and an animated series based on Gears of War remain in development. Additionally, Netflix announced an animated Minecraft series in 2024 and confirmed plans for a Diablo animated series last month.

Microsoft recently established a new entertainment division called XP to explore these media opportunities. While the company has not disclosed future partners, it confirmed that it is receiving record interest in its intellectual properties and remains committed to its ongoing projects with Netflix.
