The 2026 annual study by the Syndicat des Éditeurs de Logiciels de Loisirs (SELL) highlights that gaming in France has evolved into a mature, social, and diverse pastime. With 38.7 million players, representing nearly 7 out of 10 French citizens, the data challenges long-standing stereotypes regarding age and isolation.

Demographically, the community is predominantly adult, with an average age of 40 years. Gender parity is achieved across the total player base, while women represent 62% of the Generation Z demographic. Furthermore, players are active, with 87% participating in sports and 75% visiting cinemas, figures that exceed national averages.

Players now utilize an average of 2.1 platforms, with smartphones and consoles each attracting 57% of users, while computers retain 36%. Despite the rise of digital content, 65% of players still prefer physical game copies. Social engagement is high, as 63% of players participate in multiplayer sessions, a figure that rises to 89% among children.

Regarding parental involvement, 96% of parents are aware of parental control tools, though only 43% actively use them. Instead, families favor educational mediation and shared gaming sessions. To support this, the SELL has launched the 'Entrez dans leur jeu' campaign to assist parents in guiding their children's gaming habits.
