Capcom has defended the difficulty of its action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, following player feedback regarding challenging boss encounters. While the game's demo released in June was criticized for being too easy, the final version launched on September 4, 2026, surprised both players and critics with its increased level of challenge.

Director Satoru Nihei stated that the development team achieved the intended balance between narrative progression and combat difficulty. He explained that the goal was to allow players to advance through the story while ensuring they encounter obstacles that provide a sense of satisfaction upon defeating formidable enemies.

Nihei confirmed that these design choices are supported by internal player data. By analyzing how users progress and where they struggle, the studio concluded that the current difficulty aligns with their original objectives. The director acknowledged that while players may face defeat, they are ultimately able to overcome these moments.

Available on PC, Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series, the game marks the series' return after 20 years. Reviews have praised the title as a pure action experience featuring memorable characters and a strong atmosphere, successfully avoiding attempts to alter the core identity of the franchise.
