Key information
Square Enix has unveiled the Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Crystal Edition album to celebrate the long-running RPG franchise. This collection features music spanning all sixteen mainline entries, highlighting the series' history since its 1987 debut.
The release includes a two-record 12-inch vinyl set and a single-disc CD. The tracklist features iconic compositions such as "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy 7, "To Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy 10, and "Somnus (Instrumental Version)" from Final Fantasy 15.
The author notes that selecting a limited tracklist from sixteen games was likely a difficult task, questioning how specific legendary tracks were chosen over others for the final compilation.
Pre-orders are currently open on the Japanese storefront, with the vinyl priced at 8,000 yen ($51) and the CD at 3,600 yen ($23), excluding tax. The album is scheduled for release on Jan. 6, 2027, with listings for North American and European storefronts expected to arrive in the future.
