Key information

Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that a third entry in the Helldivers franchise is not currently planned. Chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt indicated that the developer intends to focus on maintaining the momentum of Helldivers 2 rather than pursuing a sequel that would force players to restart their progress.

The studio views its active community as the primary engine driving the game's longevity. Pilestedt noted that the industry is currently struggling as traditional live-service strategies lose effectiveness, suggesting that a hypothetical third game would face similar challenges in the modern market.

According to Pilestedt, any future sequel would require significant differentiation to ensure it could coexist alongside the current title. He emphasized that Helldivers 2 remains the primary competitor for any potential follow-up, making continued updates a more logical path for the team.

Currently, 95% of Arrowhead's staff is dedicated to supporting Helldivers 2, with only a small group exploring future projects. While a third game remains unlikely, the franchise is expanding into film, with Alan Ritchson recently cast as the lead for the upcoming Helldivers movie.
