Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 5.8, which aims to resolve persistent in-game stuttering issues by integrating Microsoft's DirectX Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) technology.
The engine now utilizes cloud-based compilation to transform shader data into a Precompiled Shader Database. By shipping this database with games, developers allow systems to access ready-to-use shaders immediately, significantly reducing CPU overhead and compilation time on the user's hardware.
While Unreal Engine 5.x remains computationally demanding, this implementation addresses performance hitches that previously affected even high-end graphics cards. The effectiveness of this solution depends on whether individual game developers choose to implement support for the new delivery system.
Hardware compatibility for ASD is expanding, with support now available for NVIDIA GeForce 621.01 drivers, various AMD RDNA generations, Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series, and Intel Arc B-Series hardware.
