Cyberpunk 2077 has experienced a notable resurgence in popularity, reaching a peak of 187,215 concurrent players on Steam. This figure represents the highest player count for the title since October 2023, when the game launched its 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The recent spike in activity coincides with the release of the second season of the Netflix anime series Edgerunners and a substantial new game update. This update introduces several gameplay additions, including dual-wielding, customizable cyberware fashion, new cosmetic items, and an additional story mission tied to the Edgerunners narrative.
The anime series is credited with driving significant interest in the game, mirroring the impact of the first season, which saw a peak of 136,724 players in September 2022. To further encourage engagement, CD Projekt Red has applied a 70% discount to the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Steam.
While the current surge is most clearly measured on Steam, increased traffic is expected across other PC storefronts and consoles, including PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Meanwhile, development continues on the next entry in the franchise, Cyberpunk 2.
