Services provider Side has bolstered its footprint in China by establishing a new studio in Chengdu and acquiring the art outsourcing firm Roboto Entertainment.
Founded in 2014 by Andrea Cordella, Roboto Entertainment specializes in environment and world-building art for AAA and AA titles on mobile and console platforms. Cordella will now serve as the global head of art for Side while managing the new Chengdu location.
Side CEO Deborah Kirkham noted that the expansion reflects the growing importance of the Chinese market, which saw industry revenue surpass $50 billion last year. The company intends for the Chengdu team to collaborate with existing offices in Shanghai and across the globe.
This development follows Side's recent opening of a studio in Taipei and a summer partnership with Modl.ai to develop an AI-powered quality assurance system.
