Microsoft has granted an extension to the consultation period for Arkane Lyon, pushing the deadline from 13th November to December. This move follows requests from unions Printemps Écologique and Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo, as the company continues searching for a potential buyer to prevent the studio's closure and the loss of 217 jobs.
The studio, known for titles like Dishonored and Deathloop, faces potential shutdown as part of a broader restructuring led by Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. While official documents previously outlined plans for the permanent cessation of activities, a Microsoft representative clarified that these filings are part of a mandatory consultation process rather than a final decision.
The extension aims to explore options for the studio, including finding a partner to support ongoing development. This work includes Marvel's Blade, though reports on the project's status remain conflicting; union members suggest the game is nearly finished, while other sources indicate it may still require years of development.
Arkane Lyon's situation is part of a wider series of layoffs across Xbox-owned studios, which have already seen over 1,600 positions cut. Further waves of reductions are reportedly planned for this month, November, and January as part of a larger initiative expected to result in 3,200 total job losses.
