Valve has officially released SteamOS version 3.9.5, the latest stable update for its Steam Deck handheld gaming PC. This operating system, which is based on Linux, also powers other hardware like Steam Machines and Steam Frames.
The update introduces several technical improvements, most notably an enhancement to power consumption during idle states when no audio is playing. Additionally, the desktop environment has been upgraded from KDE Plasma 6.4.3 to version 6.7.3, and various bug fixes have been implemented to improve overall performance.
Security measures were also prioritized in this patch. Valve has disabled compromised CA certificates from the Indian firm eMudhra. This action follows reports that eight intermediate certificate private keys were compromised, potentially allowing malicious actors to impersonate secure websites. Similar blocking measures have been adopted by various web browsers.
Following the security incident, eMudhra announced its withdrawal from the global SSL/TLS certificate business, effective October 22, 2026. This update ensures that SteamOS remains protected against the risks associated with the compromised certificates.
