Players of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are calling on developers Infinity Ward and Activision to introduce a PvE variant for the game's extraction mode, DMZ. A petition on Change.org requesting the removal of enemy player teams has garnered over 400 signatures in less than 24 hours.
In the current DMZ mode, up to 60 players are deployed to the Hajin map in squads of three. Participants must complete missions, defeat bosses, and engage other players to secure rewards. If a player dies, they lose their accumulated equipment, a mechanic some community members find frustrating.
Critics of the current system point to the high cost of reviving an Operator, which requires 60,000 DMZ Cash. While some argue that the tension of potential loss is essential to the extraction genre, others note that similar titles like Escape from Tarkov and ARC Raiders have implemented PvE modes, and suggest that developers could adapt the mode similarly to how Warzone added respawns.
Infinity Ward previously displayed a DMZ mode without opposing players in early October, though they later clarified this was an error involving a developer-only server. Modern Warfare 4, released on October 23, 2026, currently lacks the cooperative modes found in previous entries, such as Zombies or Special Ops.
