Director Peter Berg has announced that the upcoming Call of Duty movie, set within the Modern Warfare universe, intends to explore the profound cost of war. Berg emphasizes that the production will move beyond simple action tropes to examine the burden carried by warriors who place themselves in danger.
The film aims to capture the spirit of the game series by focusing on complex characters such as Captain Price, Soap, Ghost, and Alex. Berg describes these figures as nuanced humans rather than cartoonish archetypes, noting that the narrative will prioritize the emotional weight of their experiences.
Writer Taylor Sheridan, known for his work on Sicario and the military-themed show Lioness, is collaborating on the project. Berg notes that Sheridan understands the necessity of portraying the moral grey areas and the serious consequences of conflict, ensuring the film possesses a distinct soul.
Berg, who previously directed the acclaimed 2013 film Lone Survivor, asserts that the project will avoid being a mindless action spectacle. Instead, the team is committed to delivering a respectful portrayal of military duty and the heavy toll that combat takes on those involved.
