PlayStation 5 owners can now access original Xbox titles through a new emulator called XPSemu. This software is a port of the xemu emulator specifically adapted to run natively on Sony's current-generation hardware.
The emulator includes a recreation of the original Xbox dashboard menus. Performance varies significantly depending on the specific title, with Halo 2 achieving 30 FPS or up to 50 FPS when utilizing a 60 FPS patch, while Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex reportedly runs fluidly.
More demanding software faces notable stability issues. Fable: The Lost Chapters experiences frame rate drops between 10 and 20 FPS during intensive sequences, and Forza Motorsport struggles to maintain performance, hovering between 15 and 21 FPS.
Usage requires a PS5 with jailbreak on firmware version 13.6. This process carries severe risks, including the potential for permanent console damage, loss of warranty, and immediate bans from the PlayStation Network. Users also remain restricted to outdated firmware, leaving systems vulnerable to security threats.
