Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that Helldivers 3 is not currently a priority for the developer. Instead, the team remains focused on providing ongoing content and improvements for Helldivers 2, with no immediate plans for a new entry in the franchise.
Johan Pilestedt, the studio's director of operations, stated that 95% of the team is dedicated to supporting the current title. A small group is currently working on prototypes for a different project, which is not intended to be the next Helldivers game.
Pilestedt explained that a sequel would risk fragmenting the player base, forcing users to restart their progress. He views the community as the primary driver of the game's success and believes that as long as the current title maintains its popularity, a sequel is unnecessary unless it offers a significantly different experience.
Helldivers 2, a third-person shooter published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PlayStation 5 and PC, has become the most successful live-service game under Sony's current generation initiative, far exceeding the niche status of its predecessor.
