Key information
Paolo Pedercini, the developer behind Future? No Thanks!, has faced scrutiny after admitting to using artificial intelligence in his latest project. This development is notable because Pedercini previously described AI as a technofascist, antihuman, and anti-art project in a post dated October 17.
While the game's code was written manually, Pedercini utilized AI to resolve minor technical issues. Furthermore, he employed text-to-speech generation for the game's voices. Although human actors had already recorded dialogue, the developer opted for AI-generated versions, claiming they better suited the humor of those specific sequences.
Following public backlash, Pedercini replaced the AI-generated voices with the original human recordings. In an update titled "Update: now with no AI-generated voices!", the creator remarked that he felt the game had worsened slightly due to the change. He has since offered refunds to players who felt betrayed by the inclusion of AI technology.
Reflecting on the controversy, Pedercini stated that AI-assisted programming does not suit him. He confirmed that his future projects will be written entirely by hand, noting that he may provide further commentary on the experience in the future.
