Key information
Publisher Inin Games has officially postponed the release of Shenmue 3: Enhanced Edition. Originally slated for a Q4 launch this year, the title is now scheduled to arrive in early 2027 to ensure the development team can get everything right.
The updated version aims to refine Ys Net's 2019 original through various technical enhancements. Planned features include performance improvements, quality-of-life adjustments, and support for DLSS and FSR. Furthermore, the developers are increasing NPC density in Niaowu and introducing a classic camera mode modeled after the first two entries in the series.
Reflecting on the base game, former Eurogamer editor-in-chief Martin Robinson characterized the experience as a bewitching time capsule. While acknowledging the title's inherent problems, Robinson appreciated how it successfully transported players to late 80s China and the style of turn-of-the-century gaming.
First unveiled in August 2025, the project is intended to provide a second opportunity for the divisive third installment. Upon its eventual release, the game will be playable on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Switch 2.
