Key information

Modders Safemilk and Sine are currently developing an RTX-based remaster for the classic RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. The project, which has been in development since 2024, aims to modernize the game's visuals by utilizing NVIDIA's RTX Remix technology.

The mod leverages RTX Remix to implement path tracing, neural rendering, and DLSS 4.5 with Multi Frame Generation. By using generative AI to enhance materials and capture assets, the developers are focusing on upscaling textures and character models, with specific improvements already visible in locations like The Asylum, The Ocean House hotel, and The Diner.

The project faces technical challenges due to the game running on a pre-Half-Life 2 version of the Source engine. While the modders prefer to remodel and rig assets from scratch, they have found that simply enabling RTX and adjusting roughness values yields impressive results. The creators emphasize their commitment to preserving the original atmosphere of the title.

An alpha version of the mod is currently available for download through moddb. While the project aims to modernize the 2004 release, the author notes that the use of generative AI may be a point of contention for some players.
