Users on social media platform X have reported instances of unauthorized child accounts being created under their existing PlayStation Network profiles. These reports indicate that third parties are successfully generating these accounts without the primary account holder's consent.
The issue appears to bypass standard login authentication methods, as reports suggest that even accounts protected by two-step verification or passkeys are susceptible to this unauthorized activity. The specific methods used to circumvent these security measures remain unknown at this time.
Currently, there is no known way to prevent these unauthorized creations, and users cannot immediately delete such accounts themselves. Affected individuals must contact PlayStation support to request removal. While PS5 parental control settings exist, they do not block these online-based account creations.
Users are advised to check for unauthorized accounts via the PS5 family management settings, the PS App, or web browsers. As a temporary mitigation, parents can apply restrictions to these accounts, such as setting the spending limit to 0 yen. Sony Interactive Entertainment has been contacted for comment regarding this situation.
