Sega and Creative Assembly have temporarily removed Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition from sale. This action occurred two days after the remaster launched on October 13, 2026, following significant criticism regarding the quality of the release.
In a joint statement on October 15, 2026, the companies acknowledged that the game failed to meet player expectations and their own internal standards. They confirmed they are working with platform owners to remove the title while investigating the reported issues.
The release faced an Overwhelmingly Negative rating on Steam, with users citing performance issues, technical bugs, and the use of AI-generated art. Critics specifically pointed to UI icons and unit cards displaying errors characteristic of generative AI, such as hands with extra fingers. Sega and Creative Assembly have not confirmed or denied the use of generative AI in the project.
While the investigation continues, the original 2011 version of the game has been reinstated for purchase at €29,99. Existing owners of the Complete Edition will retain access to their copy, though no timeline for future improvements or a return to sale has been provided.
