Sega and Creative Assembly have temporarily pulled the Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition from sale. This decision arrived on 15 October 2026, just two days after the remaster's initial launch on 13 October 2026.

The removal follows significant player criticism regarding the game's quality. Users specifically highlighted technical faults, performance issues, and the inclusion of allegedly AI-upscaled art, citing visual errors like hands with extra fingers in unit cards and UI icons. While these claims circulated widely, Sega and Creative Assembly have not confirmed or denied the use of generative AI.

The reception for the new release was starkly negative, with Steam user scores dropping to roughly 15% positive across over 4,000 reviews. This contrasts sharply with the 2011 original, which maintained a 91% Very Positive rating from more than 22,000 reviews before it was delisted.

Sega is currently working with platform holders to reinstate the 2011 version, which is now available for €29.99. Existing owners of the Complete Edition retain access to their game, though no specific timeline has been provided for potential improvements or a return to sale for the newer version.
