The development team behind CriticalStage has announced that the official version of their online TRPG session tool, CriticalStage, will launch on December 1. This browser-based platform is designed to be free to use and requires no software installation, supporting both PC and smartphone users.
The tool provides essential features for online play, including BCDice support and a chat palette for saving commands. A standout capability is the ability to toggle between 2D and 3D board views with a single click. Users can also enhance immersion through various visual effects, such as animating character portraits and applying dynamic effects to map tokens.
Visual management is further supported by features like status bars for enemies and the ability to display text panels directly on the board. Additionally, tokens can be assigned moving effects, which are useful for tracking status ailments during gameplay.
Integration with the CharacterStage app allows users to export character data directly into the session tool. Currently, the system supports five TRPG titles, including Dungeons & Dragons 5e/5.5e and Call of Cthulhu, with plans to expand the library of supported systems in the future.
