Following the recent time change, the Guardia Civil has intensified road surveillance to address increased visibility risks for drivers. Authorities are implementing additional controls, such as those starting Monday, October 26, in regions like Galicia, to ensure vehicle safety standards are met during darker commuting hours.
Drivers face fines of up to 200 euros for improper vehicle lighting, which includes issues with maintenance or incorrect height regulation. Beyond standard lights, officials are specifically monitoring the condition of tires and the appropriate use of V16 beacons.
The DGT and Guardia Civil emphasize that the V16 beacon cannot serve as a substitute for a vehicle's required lighting system. This clarification follows reports of some motorists failing to use the device according to established regulations.
This focus on maintenance is supported by ITV records, which indicate that 23,1% of serious defects identified last year were related to lighting and signaling. These components remain the most frequent source of critical failures during vehicle inspections as colder weather approaches.
