Key information

The negotiation period for the potential acquisition of Arkane Studios, a developer known for Dishonored, has been extended by one month. Originally set to conclude on November 13, 2026, the new deadline for finding a buyer is now December 13, 2026, following the studio's inclusion in an Xbox restructuring plan.

The extension follows requests from the Printemps Écologique organization and the STJV video game workers' union. These groups sought more time to continue the search for a buyer for the Lyon-based studio, which is subject to the Florange Law requiring companies with over 1,000 employees in France to spend three months seeking a buyer before closing facilities.

A Microsoft representative confirmed to PC Gamer that the period was extended to explore various options. Regarding documents mentioning potential studio closure if no buyer is found, the representative stated these are part of the necessary consultation process and do not represent a final decision.

Journalist Jason Schreier previously noted that multiple paths to save Arkane Lyon were being actively explored. Prior to the extension, he expressed that he would be surprised if the studio ultimately faced closure.
