Key information
Square Enix released the new RPG Final Fantasy Resonance on October 23, 2026, for Steam. The title has achieved the highest concurrent player count for a single-player entry in the Final Fantasy series on the platform, surpassing 42,000 users according to SteamDB.
Developed as an HD-2D project, the game reimagines the smartphone application Final Fantasy Brave Exvius under the concept of how the series might have evolved while maintaining its pixel art style. The game has secured a spot in the top 10 of Steam's sales rankings and currently holds a 97% positive user review rating, categorized as Overwhelmingly Positive.
Industry observers note that the simultaneous release of the PC and console versions likely contributed to the high Steam adoption rate, contrasting with other series entries like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth or Final Fantasy XVI, which experienced staggered release schedules between platforms.
Producer Keisuke Nakajima and scenario writer Yukinori Kitajima expressed gratitude for the milestone. The game is currently available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a free demo covering the first chapter available on respective storefronts.
