Netflix reportedly attempted to secure exclusive film and television adaptation rights for Xbox intellectual property in a deal valued at $500 million for seven years. According to Matthew Belloni's newsletter at Puck, citing three sources, this proposal was initiated by former chief content officer Bela Bajaria.

The negotiations stalled when Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and her business affairs team countered with an $800 million valuation. Netflix CFO Spence Neumann reportedly viewed the requested price as excessive, and the offer is now considered off the table following Bajaria's departure from the streaming company.

Xbox stated to Puck that it maintains record-breaking interest in its properties and continues to view Netflix as a valued partner. Existing collaborations include an upcoming Gears of War movie alongside animated series based on Minecraft and Diablo.

Moving forward, Xbox is reportedly pursuing smaller, individual licensing agreements through its newly established XP division. This shift follows reports that the gaming division has missed executive pay targets five times in six years and faces internal pressure to generate revenue through new intellectual property deals.
