Key information
Helen Chiang has departed from her role as Chief Operating Officer at Xbox after serving in the position for only three months. This exit marks a significant leadership change within the company, representing the first high-profile departure under the tenure of Asha Sharma.
The news of Chiang's resignation was shared with Xbox staff through an internal email authored by Asha Sharma. In the correspondence, Sharma expressed gratitude for Chiang's contributions during her brief tenure and offered well wishes for her future endeavors.
Following the departure, Xbox leadership will temporarily distribute Chiang's former responsibilities among the existing executive team. While Sharma previously emphasized in July that the COO position carries high responsibility and is vital to the company's success, the organization is now actively searching for a permanent replacement.
Chiang concludes a 21-year career at Microsoft, during which she notably influenced the acquisition strategy for Mojang and Minecraft. Although Xbox confirmed the departure to The Verge, the company declined to provide further comments regarding the specific reasons behind her exit.
