Key information

Modder Arhkain is developing a project titled Retro Forever, which aims to transform the MMORPG World of Warcraft Forever into an immersive first-person experience. Inspired by the game's beta, the creator seeks to provide a perspective that the original game was never designed to support.

The project utilizes the modding framework ForeverAuras to synchronize combat graphics and sounds. Arhkain is currently focusing on the Mage class to gauge community interest, noting that the 2D art assets are inspired by titles like Doom, Daggerfall, and Hexen to simplify the development process for a solo creator.

Arhkain acknowledges significant limitations, specifically a loss of spatial awareness that makes the player vulnerable to enemies. The developer suggests that this perspective is likely unsuitable for dungeons or raids, serving instead as a trade-off for a unique, immersive view of the game's scale.

Retro Forever is currently in early development and is not yet available for public download. Arhkain hopes to build a community around the project to eventually expand first-person support to additional classes through human-led efforts rather than AI tools.
