Key information
A developer known as chicanogoth is creating a retro-style game based on the recent Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger. This project, titled Resident Evil: The Movie The Game, adapts the cinematic work into a demake that mirrors the technical constraints and visual style of the original PlayStation era.
The prototype is built using the open-source Godot Engine without the use of artificial intelligence. To construct the game, the developer utilized existing 3D assets, including a modified Chris Redfield model for the protagonist Bryan and a Cerberus model from Resident Evil 2 for the infected dog. Animations were sourced from a free-access library.
The gameplay aims to replicate the experience of 1996 survival horror titles by incorporating fixed camera angles and rigid tank controls. Recent updates to the project have introduced a health system, injury and shooting animations, sound effects, and a dedicated Game Over screen, specifically highlighting a tense sequence involving a chase in a snowy location.
While the developer describes the project as a personal learning experience, its public release remains uncertain. The creator has not announced plans for a launch, and the project faces potential legal risks regarding intellectual property rights held by Capcom and Sony, particularly if the game were to be commercialized.
