Kintsugiyama, a studio founded by former Overwatch developers Jeff Kaplan and Tim Ford, has officially delayed the early access launch of their survival title, The Legend of California, to 2027. Although the project was originally scheduled for a 2026 release on Steam, the team confirmed the updated timeline during a recent Reddit AMA.
The game focuses on Gold Rush-era survival mechanics, tasking players with mining resources and constructing ranches. Kaplan noted that while the development team is satisfied with the current content and features, the project requires additional time to address server performance metrics that failed to meet internal standards during the Alpha 3 testing phase.
Looking ahead, the developers plan to implement features such as modding support, private servers, pet systems, and complex mine collapse mechanics. To prepare for the eventual launch, the studio has scheduled another alpha test on Steam running from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18.
The title will arrive on Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2027. While console versions are not planned for the early access period, the studio is currently in discussions with Nvidia regarding potential support for GeForce Now.
