Key information
The upcoming Stellaris expansion, Willpower, introduces a new way to dominate the galaxy by focusing on ideological influence rather than traditional military conflict. Developed alongside Abrakam Entertainment, the expansion centers on the Force of Will ambition, allowing players to convert planetary populations to their beliefs through diplomacy and ideological spread.
Players utilize a new resource called Willpower to unlock specialized abilities, including Cultural Envoys. These unique ships bypass closed borders to broadcast ideologies directly to planetary populations. Game Designer Gabriel Brunet notes that this system emphasizes soft power, enabling players to incite ideological revolts that can transform foreign populations into loyal vassal states.
The expansion also adds absolute ethics, a tier beyond fanaticism that provides stronger effects and modifiers. To achieve this, players must sacrifice a side ethic, which is a prerequisite for progressing through the Force of Will ambition. Additionally, eight new paragon leaders embodying specific ideological values can be recruited once players construct symbols like Galactic Halls or Cathedrals.
Stellaris: Willpower is scheduled for release on Monday November 23, with a price of $24.99 / £20.99. It is also available via the $49.49 / £41.59 Stellaris Season 10 bundle. The expansion launches alongside the free 4.6 update, titled Corona Borealis.
