YouTuber dan2091 has showcased a work-in-progress mod for the original Deus Ex that shifts the immersive sim into a third-person perspective. While the creator's identity remains unconfirmed, the project introduces significant gameplay changes beyond a simple camera adjustment.

The mod features custom animations, including bespoke ladder climbing and a system for changing JC Denton's clothing. Most notably, the modification adds a dual-wielding system that functions in both first and third-person views, alongside new movement mechanics.

The character is now capable of rolling and performing shoot-dodges while dual-wielding pistols, mechanics that the author notes appear to be sourced from Max Payne 1 or 2. These animations integrate with the game's aesthetic, offering a faster, more agile combat experience.

While the original game utilized third-person perspectives for dialogue and later series entries used hybrid systems, this mod offers a complete shift. Despite fan interest, the future of the official franchise remains uncertain, as a project by Eidos Montreal was reportedly cancelled by Embracer Group.
