Unknown Worlds has unveiled an Early Access 2.0 update for Subnautica 2, described by creative director Anthony Gallegos as the most significant expansion since the game's May launch. Revealed in an October 15 video, this update aims to increase the game's intensity by introducing a dark, threatening new region featuring multiple biomes.
Gameplay mechanics are set for major adjustments, including the introduction of the Frog chassis, which adds limbs to the Tadpole submersible to alter player movement. Additionally, the boost ability will transition from a biological modification to an integrated feature of the fins, allowing players to equip different upgrades simultaneously. New construction options, such as a round base room, are also included.
The update expands the narrative by exploring the history of the Axum and the past of the colonists. Central to this story is the Harvester Leviathan, which will receive new behaviors to make it more dangerous and unstable. Developers noted that the creature's behavior stems from its inability to fulfill its original purpose, resulting in an obsessive and unpredictable nature.
While the update promises significant content additions, including new creatures and story elements, Unknown Worlds has not yet provided a specific release date for the Early Access 2.0 patch.
