Key information
Ikea introduced its affordable $10 Kallsup Bluetooth speakers in April, featuring a compact 2.75-inch design and multiple color options. The company initially claimed that users could daisy-chain up to 100 of these units together for synchronized audio playback.
Wired collaborated with Ikea to test the upper limits of this connectivity feature. While the manufacturer suggested that linking 150 devices might be technically feasible, an Ikea spokesperson admitted that the company had never actually attempted such a large-scale configuration before.
During the assembly of a massive sound wall at the Wired London office, one unit arrived damaged from Sweden. Despite the device illuminating, it produced a rattling noise and failed to function, leaving the team with 149 operational speakers for the final test.
