Hidetaka Miyazaki is recognized today as a pivotal figure in gaming, known for titles like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. Despite his current status as president of FromSoftware, Miyazaki revealed in a 2015 interview with The Guardian that he lacked specific career ambitions or dreams during his childhood in Japan.

Miyazaki's early creative habits involved reading books and using his imagination to fill in gaps where he did not understand the text. After studying social sciences at Keio University, he initially worked at Oracle Corporation in the IT sector rather than pursuing game development.

His career trajectory shifted after a friend introduced him to the game ICO, which inspired him to enter the industry. At age 29, he faced hiring challenges due to his lack of experience, but FromSoftware eventually offered him a position.

Miyazaki began his tenure working on Armored Core before taking control of the troubled Demon's Souls project. He viewed the role as an opportunity to experiment, noting that the project's existing difficulties lowered the stakes for his ideas. The subsequent success of his titles led to his rapid rise to the presidency of FromSoftware within 10 years.
