PlayStation 5 hardware sales experienced a 22% increase recently, according to data from Circana reported by Bloomberg. While anticipation for the November 19 release of GTA 6 is building, industry experts attribute this growth primarily to the September release of Marvel's Wolverine.
Mat Piscatella, Circana Senior Director, noted that Marvel's Wolverine was the month's best-selling game and drove significant hardware interest. The game's success was bolstered by a limited edition DualSense controller and a hardware bundle that sold out rapidly, even before the game's official launch.
Despite its commercial performance, IGN reviewer Simon Cardy awarded the title a 6 out of 10. Cardy praised the character work but criticized the combat for becoming repetitive, ultimately describing the experience as merely okay. Community feedback has been mixed, prompting developer Insomniac to address complaints regarding hand-holding mechanics by adding a toggle for objective-guiding scent trails.
While the PS5 saw a boost, the Xbox Series did not experience a similar sales increase. Looking forward, market interest remains high as the PS5 Pro currently trades for approximately $1,399 on platforms like Amazon and Gamestop. Future hardware pricing remains a topic of speculation, with rumors suggesting potential costs for next-generation consoles reaching up to $1,800.
