PlayStation 5 hardware sales experienced a 22% increase recently, according to data from Circana reported by Bloomberg. While anticipation for the November 19 release of GTA 6 is building, industry experts attribute this growth primarily to the September release of Marvel's Wolverine.
Circana's Mat Piscatella noted that Marvel's Wolverine was the month's best-selling game and drove significant hardware interest, including a sold-out limited edition DualSense controller bundle. Conversely, the Xbox Series consoles did not see a comparable sales boost during the same period.
IGN's review of Marvel's Wolverine awarded it a 6 out of 10. Reviewer Simon Cardy praised the character work but criticized the combat for becoming repetitive, ultimately describing the experience as merely okay. Following community feedback, developer Insomniac addressed concerns regarding hand-holding mechanics by introducing a toggle for the game's objective-guiding scent trail.
Market interest remains high as the industry looks toward the launch of GTA 6. PS5 Pro units have seen significant demand, with secondary market prices reaching $1,400. Meanwhile, reports suggest future hardware costs may rise, with rumors indicating the next-generation Xbox Project Helix could cost $1,800 and potential PS6 components like RAM and SSDs could cost $680.
