Independent developer Pierre-Louis Biojout has removed his first-person shooter, Tenderloin Night Shift, from his NanoCorp AI website following intense criticism from San Francisco officials. The game, which featured a digital recreation of the city's Tenderloin neighborhood, was condemned for its depiction of local residents as zombies.

The title utilized OpenAI’s Codex to generate a virtual environment where players fought enemies resembling construction workers, delivery drivers, and individuals in the 'fentanyl fold' posture. Biojout had previously monetized the project by selling digital billboard space for $100 per week.

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie rejected the game, stating it failed to reflect city values. Supervisor Bilal Mahmood labeled the project 'deeply disturbing and unacceptable,' arguing that transforming violence against vulnerable populations into entertainment is dehumanizing.

Biojout issued a public apology, stating his intent was not to target specific demographics or depict shooting real people. He has since refunded all advertisers, deleted related social media posts, and donated the game's total revenue to the Delancey Street Foundation, a nonprofit providing rehabilitation and vocational services.
