Nintendo is partnering with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action adaptation titled The Legend of Zelda. Announced in 2023, the project is produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 30, 2027.

Director Wes Ball aims to create a grounded, realistic aesthetic for the adaptation, opting to minimize reliance on motion-captured computer graphics. The production features actors wearing Hylian tunics and prosthetic elf ears to bring the fantasy world to life.

Official casting includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, both announced by Miyamoto in 2025. Unofficial reports and set photos suggest additional roles, including Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf and Dichen Lachman as Impa. Furthermore, the late Sam Neill and Yvonne Strahovski are reportedly cast as the King and Queen of Hyrule, while Lydia Peckham is attached to an unidentified role.

Miyamoto describes the film as an original story drawing from concepts developed throughout the franchise's 40-year history. The project marks Nintendo's return to live-action film production after more than 30 years.
