Key information
Square Enix announced on October 23, 2026, that the RPG Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has surpassed one million units in global shipments and digital sales. This milestone marks the first time a SaGa series title has reached one million sales since SaGa Frontier in 1997, occurring 29 years later.
The title is a full 3D remake of the original 1993 game, featuring modernized mechanics such as the new "United Attack" system, which allows players to combine allies' skills. While retaining classic elements like "Glimmer" and "Formations," the remake introduces a rebalanced growth system, difficulty settings, and full voice acting for event scenes to enhance accessibility.
Series General Director Akitoshi Kawazu attributed the success to positive word-of-mouth, noting that the game's reputation grew over a year after its initial release. The producer reflected that pre-order numbers were initially low, but player feedback helped drive the eventual sales achievement in a crowded market.
The game is currently available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for 6,820 yen. Following this success, the sequel, Romancing SaGa 3: Destiny United, is scheduled for release on February 16, 2027.
