Key information

New Blood Interactive CEO Dave Oshry has expressed strong disapproval regarding the use of the term immersive sim for marketing purposes. In a recent interview, Oshry described the label as an awful marketing term, suggesting that developers should avoid using it entirely when promoting their titles.

Oshry noted that he was unfamiliar with the specific terminology until working with Dillon Rogers on the game Gloomwood. Despite his experience with classic titles like Deus Ex and System Shock, he historically categorized these games as roleplaying games rather than immersive sims.

According to Oshry, the core elements often attributed to the genre, such as world immersion and character building, are fundamental characteristics of RPGs. He maintains that marketing a game as an RPG is likely to be more effective than using the immersive sim descriptor.

New Blood continues to publish titles within this space, including Gloomwood and Fallen Aces. Recent updates for Gloomwood have introduced new content, such as a vertical map expansion, a new weapon, and a market district, as the game remains in active development.
