Xbox Chief Operating Officer Helen Chiang has departed the company after serving in the position for only three months. This role was newly established as part of a brand reset initiated by CEO Asha Sharma, marking the first time the organization has utilized a COO in its hierarchy.
In an internal memo dated October 23, Sharma confirmed the departure without providing a specific reason. The responsibilities previously held by Chiang, which included end-to-end profit and loss oversight for hardware, content, services, and platforms, are currently being distributed among other Xbox leadership members.
While Microsoft provided a standard statement expressing gratitude for Chiang's 21-year tenure, an anonymous source informed Eurogamer that the executive was terminated due to policy violations. The company officially maintains that it does not discuss individual personnel matters.
The rapid exit of a high-level executive contributes to a broader sense of instability at Xbox. Observers suggest that while the departure may not fundamentally alter the company's current strategy, the quick turnaround in such a critical role fails to inspire confidence during this period of organizational uncertainty.
