A new collaboration has emerged between the titles Super Meat Boy 3D and Mouse: P.I. For Hire. This partnership brings the detective protagonist from the noir-inspired shooter into the challenging, sawblade-filled environments of the 3D platformer.
When playing as the mouse detective, the game adopts a black-and-white visual filter to mirror the aesthetic of his original FPS title. The character model is also transformed into a cube-like shape to fit the mechanics of the labyrinthine platformer.
PC Gamer Australian Editor Shaun Prescott noted that Super Meat Boy 3D lacks the specific vibe associated with Edmund McMillen's work, though he praised the core running and jumping mechanics. Conversely, contributor Phil Iwaniuk previously described Mouse: P.I. For Hire as a bona fide classic, highlighting that its appeal extends beyond its distinct art style.
While Super Meat Boy 3D currently holds a Very Positive rating on Steam, it remains unclear if the crossover will extend to the detective game. The integration of the meat-based character into a noir mystery setting presents a thematic challenge for future updates.
