Paolo Pedercini, the developer behind the ecosocialist satire Future? No Thanks!, has removed AI-generated text-to-speech voice lines from his game. This decision follows significant community backlash regarding his use of generative technology, which he had previously described as a technofascist and anti-human project.

Pedercini originally defended the inclusion of these voice lines as a satirical element, arguing that the game lampoons the careless application of generative AI. He also disclosed using AI tools for minor coding tasks, such as debugging and shader fixes, claiming that many developers utilize such tools discreetly despite public stances against them.

Despite his defense, Pedercini replaced the AI voice lines with human recordings that were produced earlier this year. He expressed frustration with the criticism, noting that he believes the game is only marginally worse without the AI elements. He also offered refunds to players who feel betrayed by his initial use of the technology.

Looking forward, Pedercini has committed to ensuring his next project is entirely hand-coded. He stated that he has concluded that AI-assisted programming is detrimental to his workflow, marking a shift in his development approach following the controversy surrounding his current title.
